27th January Wednesday 2016
In our first meeting we decided we're going to be making a CD. After we debated the name of our CD and later on decided to put two of our ideas together and call it 'Leavers 2K16'. Our target audience is people in our year so 15-16 year olds. The content of out CD is songs from the charts, so up to date songs by popular artists but covers of the songs by people in our year. Jacob will do some market research for us to find out what cover people want for the CD and what songs they would like to hear by who.
We will be recording bands at the same time not one by one and soloists by themselves. We also will sort out dates for each artist and book the studio for them. Kritsie said she will ask each performer and set up a time. We decided that we will be doing recording and mixing just before easter.
The deadline we agreed on is April. We assigned tasks for each person in the group.
Kristie is finding out who is available to record and when.
Vicki will ask who is doing what songs.
Kelly+Jacob are sorting out the rehearsal time.
I am finding out what rooms are available for bigger groups to be recorded.
3rd Wednesday February 2016
Last meeting we discussed the design of the CD case and how we are going to advertise it. Also Kelly and Jacob talked to us about their market research. The CD also is going to have the word 'Live' on it so we can record people through an ipad, because the recording studio is having some technical problems right now so it will be very difficult to record in there.
The CD case is going to be simple but with colour to catch people's attention. It's going to have up to date music because the age group we are doing it for is people in year 11 aged 15-16. Also the CD is going to be non-gender specific.
From the market research we discovered that 15-16 year olds do not pay much attention to posters, however they are always on social media which means that they are more likely to find out about the CD if it is advertised on social media pages like Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.
We then decided that Jacob is going to still make posters to put up around school, however we will still advertise on social media (Twitter- Kelly, Snapchat- Vicki and Instagram- Kiera) by putting the photo of the poster up for people to see.
I am going to be making leaflets with photos of the performances to show people who's being recorded and to attract the audience.
Recording Copyright:
To perform in the school we need to have a PRS license, to make sure that the performers can be recorded live and have their cover's of the songs put onto a CD.
"If music is ever played on your premises for customers or staff; for example, through radio, TV, CD, MP3 or computer speakers, or at live events, this is considered a ‘public performance’. The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 states you need to get permission from the copyright holder to ‘perform’ music in public – and a music licence grants you this permission."
I have found out that the school has a PRS license for copyright by asking a music teacher to make sure it's safe to record people and have them play artist's songs from the charts.
10th Wednesday February 2016
Today i am continuing to design the leaflet for the CD. I still do not know how much the CD's are meant to cost (they will be free but with suggested donations) to put on the poster or exactly everyone who we are recording. We are having a meeting tomorrow and we will discuss this. Another issue we will discuss is the logo we are all going to use for our CD.
Also i found out we cannot sell the CD's because we would have to pay royalties for the original artists so we will instead we will get donations when we give the CD's away and all the money will go towards our prom.
24th Wednesday February 2016
Last meeting we discussed who will do the recording, it will be me and Kristie. Kiera and Kelly will be doing designing the cover for the CD and Vicki has made a social media 'twitter' page to advertise to our target audience. The rest of us are still making posters and leaflets on the computers.
Market Research:
I looked at the types of leaflets used for advertising i found out that people like simple designs with a few images not too over the top, this then later helped me to find decide what i need to make a leaflet to advertise our CD.
This is my industry research. I have looked up leaflets for different events. All of these leaflets have a colourful simple design with small images to grab peoples attention and bold clear writing, this helped me to work out what looks aesthetically pleasing and what the target audience would like in order for the leaflet to draw their attention and make them want one.
9th Wednesday March 2016
Tonight i will be recording the bands from our year in house music live. I will use an ipad to record them since the studio is not available for use. Afterwards i will tell Kristie who else is left to be recorded and shre will organise dates to record them separately.
Another job i will be doing tonight is taking photos of the people i recorded to add onto the leaflet. Kiera was meant to do it but she didn't get a chance to therefore i will take over the job of taking photos as well.
10th Thursday March 2016
Last night i took photos of people performing live and i asked Ben if i could use the live recordings he has recorded from the nights performances. I had managed to record Courtney as well as James & Harry's band and Megan there's still a few people left to be recoded which will be done by Kristie.
30th Wednesday March 2016
I decided with my group that the leaflet i made was not clear enough for people to know when the CD is out and where to get it from so i changed the leaflet a little bit more.
This matches industry practice because it's similar to the leaflets i looked at it's very simplistic yet affective because it has certain colours standing out grabbing the target audiences attention. This will attract our target audience because they said they like simple designs with certain colours which aren't gender specific so they will still look at the leaflet.

This is my Leaflet which would be put on boards around school to grab peoples attention and make then be aware of the CD. It matches my target audience because, it's quite simple yet still has some colour to attract people's attention and it matches industry practise because like the ministry of sound CD cover it's got one main colour (green) which makes people look at it.

EVALUATION OF THE PRODUCT – review the MANAGEMENT of the music product
One of our many strengths as a group in general was the fact that we all had many good ideas, however we didn't always agree on things like for e.g the name of the CD. We planned everything every lesson and recorded it, nevertheless not everyone did the job's they had to do like someone in our group had to take photos of the performers but instead they didn't show up to the band rehearsal and i ended up taking pictures of the band and other performers at house music.
We originally planned for more songs to be on however the person in charge of that didn't get any extra recordings due to technical difficulties like the studio not being available to record people, we managed to change our CD to be a 'live' recording instead and were able to record people live at house music.
For the management of professional relationships we worked well together throughout the tasks we had to complete, if someone was unable to do something someone else would step in and help and them out with it, also we told each other if we had to add anything else and gave each other feedback.
Our school resources werent 100% reliable as the studio had technical problems and therefore we had ended up doing a 'live' recording. For editing the recordings we ended up borrowing Mr Radcliff's macbook to use Logic as it's easier to use than Reason which is on the school computers.
Team contributions were good, lots of people had ideas about things like the name and the logo and the advertising. Also when someone wasn't able to do a job someone like me or Kristie would step in and make sure it was complete. We made sure that everything we did such as the recordings were at a high standard as we wanted the CD to be good.
The planning we have done was affected in many ways, as we weren't able to use the studio and not everyone was available for recording on the night of House Music. We were supposed to record people at lunch in the studio during school hours but as we weren't able to do that it resulted in us having less recordings.

Musical Product:
The final product has high quality live recordings which have been edited to sound well. James' band did a wonderful performance as well as Megan. Courtney decided to do an original song which gives our CD a whole different song. All the songs have excellent timing and rhythm. The recording part was a problem for the CD product however we managed to find a way around it by doing the 'live' recordings. Next time to improve we would use the studio and record more people as we originally intended. Also we would be more organised about setting up and recording the person. I would stick to using Logic on the macbook instead of Reason on the school computers for mixing as it's easier to use.
The CD advertisements were very aesthetically pleasing meaning that they met the target audience and people said they liked them.
"Very eye catching" Aaron Matthewson.
"I like the images the lights in them give a unique effect to the poster" Nathaniel Hull.
"The songs on the CD are an alright quality for a live recording, I really like the original song by courtney its catchy and has a good rhythm" Matt Wren.
These responses tell me that people liked our ideas and recordings.
